1907 Steinway & Sons O Grand WHP (Rebuilt)

1 / 8

A 1902 Steinway Model O is a “Golden Era” 5’10½” (180 cm) grand piano, often referred to as a “living room grand” for its ability to deliver concert-like performance in a more manageable size. Introduced around 1900, the Model O was designed to bridge the gap between smaller baby grands and larger concert instruments, offering a rich, warm tone with impressive depth and projection. This early 1902 example is particularly notable as one of the first to feature Steinway’s now-iconic rounded tail design, along with the elegant “Sketch 380” Sheraton-style squared legs, reflecting the refined aesthetic of the period. Built during Steinway’s Golden Era of piano manufacturing, it incorporates premium materials and time-tested innovations, including a solid spruce diaphragmatic soundboard, hard rock maple rim, and responsive action, all contributing to its balanced tone, powerful bass, and singing treble. Today, a 1902 Model O is highly valued by pianists, collectors, and restorers for its combination of historical significance, craftsmanship, and enduring musical performance, making it both a functional instrument and a piece of piano-making history.
