The Steinway Model M, also known as the “Studio Grand,” is the most popular and well-rounded Steinway, offering beautiful, concert-quality sound in a convenient size. Steinway & Sons designed the Model M to maximize performance in a compact form, ensuring the renowned Steinway quality of sound and responsiveness is maintained. Despite its size, the Model M is celebrated for its powerful sound, quick, responsive action, and impressive range of tone. The Steinway Model M is classified as a “Medium Grand” piano. Measuring 5′ 7″ (170 cm), its technical construction features a 10-ply hard rock maple rim, a diaphragmatic soundboard made of quarter-sawn Sitka spruce, and a Hexagrip pinblock with 7 laminations. The instrument supports a total string tension of 33,823 lbs (15,040 kg) and is available with the Spirio Player technology. Manufactured in New York, U.S.A. and Hamburg, Germany, the Model M is offered in standard finishes like Ebony and White (High Polish or Satin) as well as the special Crown Jewel Collection and Grand Piano Collection options.
