Used 5’7″ 1983 Steinway M Chippendale PianoDisc (PD) Mahogany Satin (MS) Grand Piano During the early to mid-20th Century, a significant revival of historic period styles swept through the furniture and interior design industries. In response to this trend, some high-quality piano manufacturers produced a limited number of “art-case” pianos that echoed these popular historic styles. This vintage Steinway “Model M” is a rare and desirable example, featuring the carved Chippendale “Ball & Claw” style case. The “Model M” was one of Steinway’s most successful models because it delivered concert-quality sound in an instrument compact enough for the home. Since these carved art-case pianos were built in fewer numbers and were considerably more expensive than traditional models, they are quite rare today.
