1971 Steinway & Sons Model L Grand Piano | Ebony – Restored #425915 M easuring approx. 5′ 10 1/2″ in length, the Steinway & Sons Model L Grand Piano was originally introduced in 1924. The Model L with its squared-off tail was designed to replace the same-size Model O which featured a rounded tail section. The cast iron plate and soundboard conform to the square tail providing additional soundboard space at the rear of the instrument when compared to its predecessor. The Model L/O Grand Pianos are the larger ‘baby’ style grand pianos built by Steinway and are among the most popular. These instruments are at home in both home and institutional environments. Fully restored, this beautiful grand piano is fully suited for either the amateur or professional musician. The piano’s action has been analyzed and the finest, dimensionally correct parts have been used in its restoration. This includes a new all new action including new wippens, Ronsen hammers, and new shanks, and flanges. A new damper back action has been installed and regulated. New keytops have been installed to the original wooden keysticks and the original ebony sharps were hand sanded and polished. This piano’s action has been regulated and voiced to allow for a responsive touch and the classic Steinway quality of tone. New premium music wire and custom-manufactured copper wound bass strings have been coiled to blued tuning pins. These were driven into a new hard maple pinblock which holds them tightly for a stable tune. The piano features a new custom-fitted solid spruce soundboard. The imposing cast iron plate has been given new life and has been sprayed with a rich bronzed polyurethane. The cabinet was fully refinished in rich satin ebony and is stunning when combined with the restored brass hardware and polished brass nose bolt caps.
