1971 Hamburg Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand Piano | Polished Ebony – Restored #424770 F irst introduced in 1884 and still in regular production at both the New York and Hamburg Factories, the Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand Piano is the instrument by which all other concert pianos are judged. The pinnacle of Steinway piano design, these instruments measure just under nine feet in length. Often featured on the stages of the leading premier concert venues in the world – they are just at home in the residences of many Steinway aficionados and advanced pianists. Steinway & Sons Model D #424770 was built in 1971 at the Hamburg Steinway & Sons Factory and has undergone a full restoration by Chupp’s Piano Service, Inc. This beautiful concert-level grand piano exhibits the powerful yet delicate control expected of a piano bearing the name ‘Steinway’. The piano’s cabinet features square arms and tapered, spade legs. The ebony-colored cabinet has been refinished in high-gloss polyester. Solid brass hardware contrasts against the sleek black finish. The backbone of the piano, the cast iron plate, has been re-bronzed in a brilliant gold sheen. The piano’s action has been fully rebuilt with new dimensionally correct wippens and new hammers, shanks, and flanges. (Including genuine Hamburg Steinway hammers and German Renner wippens.) It has been expertly regulated and voiced by our team of piano technicians. The piano features a new, solid-spruce soundboard, and a custom-fit hard rock maple pinblock was installed for optimal tone and stability. The powerful scale design of the Model D is on full display, and it is sure to fill the far corners of any concert hall! Below is a list of work that has been completed.
