Boston UP 118S ES (Pre-Owned)

The Boston UP 118S Upright Piano and other Boston upright models like the UP 118S are part of the Boston line of acoustic pianos, which were designed by Steinway & Sons to offer high‑level performance and touch at a more accessible price point than Steinway’s flagship instruments. Boston pianos combine Steinway’s design principles—such as carefully tapered solid spruce soundboards, robust back posts, and patented construction features aimed at rich tone and tuning stability—with quality manufacturing processes. Many Boston uprights are crafted in Japan to Steinway’s specifications or, in some cases (like certain smaller models), produced in Indonesia, and they often feature professional‑oriented elements like solid maple bridges, multi‑layer pin blocks, and responsive action mechanisms. The Boston upright family is known for clear, singing tone, balanced touch, and durability that make them suitable for serious students, teachers, and home musicians. Because they are based on Steinway engineering and use higher‑grade materials compared to typical mid‑range pianos, Boston uprights can serve well in practice rooms, studios, and even light performance settings. Additionally, Boston pianos share in the “Steinway Promise,” a program that allows owners to trade in their Boston piano within a certain time frame toward the purchase of a new Steinway grand, underscoring their role as a stepping stone for pianists progressing to professional instruments.
