Young Chang has built pianos in Incheon, South Korea since 1956, and for two decades (1967–1987) it did so under a technical partnership with Yamaha that shaped its designs and quality control. It was for years the world's largest piano manufacturer by volume, and its pianos (plus the Weber and Bergmann sub-brands) are common across the US.
Hyundai Development Company acquired Young Chang in 2006 and the brand is still in production. On the used market the 1980s–90s Korean-built instruments are the ones to look for: honest, durable pianos that sell for a fraction of comparable Japanese models.
