Steinway & Sons S Grand ES

The Steinway Model S is a 5’1″ (155 cm) baby grand piano, introduced in 1935 as the most compact grand piano in the Steinway & Sons lineup. Designed specifically for smaller, more intimate spaces, it is often referred to as a “City Grand” or traditional baby grand, offering the elegance of a grand piano in a space-conscious form. Despite its smaller size, the Model S is built with the same meticulous handcraftsmanship and premium materials found in larger Steinway models, including a solid spruce diaphragmatic soundboard, hard rock maple rim, and precision-engineered action. These features allow it to produce a surprisingly rich, warm tone with clear articulation and responsive touch, making it well-suited for home use, studios, and teaching environments. Praised for its balance of size, performance, and iconic Steinway quality, the Model S delivers a refined musical experience while maintaining the visual elegance and expressive capability of a full grand piano in a more compact footprint.
