Mason & Hamlin BB Piano: What It's Worth in 2026, Prices & Listings

Size
7' (213 cm) semi-concert grand
Made
Boston-built from the early twentieth century; made again in Haverhill, Massachusetts since the 1990s

The Mason & Hamlin BB is the seven-foot grand that made the company's reputation: a semi-concert piano with the tension resonator, a very heavy rim and a bass that technicians still use as the reference for the size. Recording studios, conservatories and serious amateurs with the room seek it out, and a rebuilt Boston-era BB is one of the few vintage American grands that commands new-piano money.

Like the Model A, the BB spans three eras. Boston-built examples (before the 1930s) and the modern Haverhill production are the ones with the reputation; the Rochester-built pianos of the Aeolian-American decades are valued well below them.

Era and rebuild status decide a BB's value, then the room it has lived in. Haverhill BBs and well-rebuilt Boston-era pianos sit at the top of the range; unrestored vintage and Rochester-era pianos sit well below. See the live figures above.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Mason & Hamlin BB worth?

See the live snapshot above for what BBs are asking right now, then place yours by era and rebuild status: a Haverhill or well-rebuilt Boston-era BB sits at the top, a Rochester-era or unrestored vintage BB lower.

Mason & Hamlin BB or Steinway B?

They are the two classic American seven-footers. The Steinway usually asks more and is easier to resell; the BB is heavier-built with a bigger, darker bass, and many technicians prefer it. Play both if you can.

Will a BB fit in a house?

At seven feet it needs a large room and a solid floor. It is also unusually heavy for its length, so plan the move with a crew that handles concert grands.
