What Used Pianos Are Listed For in Q4 2026: Asking Prices by Type and Brand

The numbers technicians, teachers, writers and owners ask for and nobody publishes: median asking prices for used pianos by type and brand, measured from live listings rather than quoted from a blue book, and dated so you can cite them.

By Joey Bouza, Founder, US Piano Connection · Updated October 21, 2026

Most published piano value figures are a blue book's opinion, a technician's memory, or a forum post from years ago. The tables below are different: each one is computed from the pianos currently listed on this site with a real asking price, and refreshed hourly. Asking is not sold, and dealer asking prices run well above what a private sale brings, so read every figure as the top of the conversation, not the bottom. The method is at the end of the page, with how to cite it.

Median asking price by piano type

Spinets, consoles, studio and full uprights, baby grands and grands each sit in a different price band, and the gaps between types are wider than the gaps between brands inside one type. Start here, then narrow by brand.

Median asking price by brand

Brands are ranked by the number of priced listings, so the top rows are the brands with the most data behind them. A brand with a high median and a small count is usually a concert or boutique maker with a few instruments, not a price trend. Each brand name links to its value guide with the model-level detail.

How to read these numbers

  • Asking, not sold. Final prices for used pianos typically settle below asking, and many older uprights change hands for the cost of moving them; the discount varies by type, brand and condition.
  • Dealer and private listings are pooled. Dealer asking prices include rebuilding, regulation, delivery and a warranty; a private seller with the same piano usually lists lower.
  • Rows with few listings are noisy. Types and brands with under five priced listings are left out of the tables for that reason.
  • Hourly refresh, quarterly snapshot. The tables change as inventory changes; the quarter in the title is the snapshot period for anyone citing a figure.

Method and how to cite this report

Source: every approved listing on US Piano Connection with a price above zero, grouped by piano type and by brand (case-insensitive, five or more priced listings). Medians are the 50th percentile of asking price within each group. Figures are recomputed every hour from the live database; nothing on this page is typed in by hand.

Frequently asked questions

Are these sold prices or asking prices?
Asking prices. They are the prices sellers list at on this site, recalculated hourly. Sold prices are not public for private sales, so asking medians are the most complete measured figure available, and final prices usually settle below them.
How current are the figures?
Each table is recomputed every hour from the pianos currently listed. The quarter in the title is the citation period; the January 2027 edition will carry the Q1 snapshot.
Can I quote these numbers in an article, a lesson handout or a forum post?
Yes, with a link to this page and the date you accessed it. The tables are measured from live listings and are free to cite.
How do I get a value for my own piano from this?
Find your type here for the band, open the brand's value guide for the model-level figures, then run the free appraisal, which compares your piano against the live listings closest to it in brand, model and age.
