Yamaha G2 Piano: What It's Worth in 2026, Prices & Listings
- Size
- 5'7"–5'8" (170 cm) grand
- Made
- The G series ran from the 1960s into the early 1990s, when the C and GC series replaced it
The Yamaha G2 was the home grand of the G series — Yamaha's consumer-grade grands from the 1960s through the early 1990s. It is a step below the Conservatory C series in refinement, but a G2 in good condition is a solid, honest instrument at a friendly price.
Because the G series is now decades old, condition matters more than anything. A G2 that has been regulated and had its hammers attended to plays well; a neglected one shows its age.

Live asking prices from 16 priced Yamaha G2 listings on US Piano Connection right now, refreshed hourly. Dealer asking prices include prep work, warranty and delivery; a private sale realistically brings less than the dealer median for an ordinary example.
G2s are among the more affordable ways into a Yamaha grand. Prices are driven almost entirely by condition and refurbishment, not by year.

What to know about the Yamaha G2
- G-series grands used simpler construction than the C series; they were built to a price, and it shows mainly in tone complexity, not reliability.
- Expect original hammers and strings on most examples; budget for a technician's assessment.
- Refurbished dealer G2s (EP, PE finishes) are common on the used market and ask more than private examples.
- The G2 was replaced by the C2 and GC2, both newer designs.

What is a Yamaha G2 worth?
See the live figures above; the G2 usually asks less than a comparable C2 because it is an older, simpler design.
Is a Yamaha G2 a good piano?
A good G2 is a reliable, pleasant home grand. It is not a Conservatory-series piano, and it will not sound like a C-series, but for the price it is hard to beat.
G2 or C2?
If you can stretch to a C2, do; it is the better instrument. If not, a well-serviced G2 gives most of the experience for much less.
