Steinway Model B Piano: What It's Worth in 2026, Prices & Listings

Size
6'10½" (211 cm) grand
Made
In production since 1872 in essentially the same size; New York and Hamburg

The Steinway Model B is the piano Steinway itself calls "the perfect piano": a 6'10" grand that is large enough for a small hall and refined enough for a serious home studio. It has been in production for a century and a half and is the model most professionals aspire to own.

Used Bs are the most valuable Steinways short of the concert D, and the market is deep: rebuilt vintage Bs, art-case Bs, Hamburg Bs and near-new New York Bs all trade actively.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Steinway Model B worth?

See the live snapshot above; the B is among the highest-value pianos on this site, with rebuilt vintage and near-new examples at the top.

Is a Model B too big for a home?

It needs a large room, but many serious amateurs and teachers own one at home. If the room is average-sized, the A or O will be more comfortable.

New York or Hamburg B?

Both are superb. Hamburg Bs are rarer in the U.S. and usually carry a premium; the difference in tone is a matter of taste.
